EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT SPECTRUMTECH

SPECTRUMTECH, was launched in 2018 as United Community Options of Broward’s first Social Enterprise. Its vision is to empower adults on the Autism Spectrum by providing meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities.

SPECTRUMTECH Training and Technology Center in Ft Lauderdale trains and employs Adults on the Autism Spectrum in the last phase of software testing known as User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

If You…

Are 18 years of age or older
Are eligible to work in the US
Have reliable transportation to our office at 1311 SW 31st Ave. Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33312
Are available to commit to a 30-hour per week training (M-F 9:00am – 3:30pm)
Have the desire to become employed in the future
Are able to work independently
Are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder/Asperger’s Syndrome
Have completed a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree (Bachelor degree preferred)

Training/Employment Questions

How much does the training cost?

Most trainees have little to no out of pocket cost as tuition may be covered by Vocational Rehabilitation or through other scholarship opportunities.

What does the training entail?

The training allows candidates the opportunity to explore whether quality assurance testing is a good career choice. It also allows SPECTRUMTECH to assess whether the candidate is a good match for our team. Completion of training does not guarantee and offer of employment.

The intense four week training teaches the basics of Software Testing and Quality Assurance Testing (UAT) and prepares students for the Certified Associate in Software Testing (CAST) exam offered by: Quality Assurance Institute (QAI). The training is currently only available in English. Classes are held virtually Monday-Friday from 9:00am-3:30pm EST.

Once students have received their CAST certification they are eligible to participate in a twelve week internship.

How are candidates selected for the training?

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field with many candidates having college credits and or degrees. All SPECTRUMTECH referrals will participate in an intake meeting to determine appropriateness for the training.

Qualified candidates are invited to participate in a face to face informal interview followed by two assessments (one is a short 15 minute assessment and the other is a short 10 minute practical hands-on computer assessment).

Can people work remotely for SPECTRUMTECH?

Training is virtual and trainees may join from anywhere in the US.

Does completing the training program guarantee employment?

Most trainees who complete the program will be extended an offer of part time on-call employment as a Quality Assurance Tester. As a service provider, we are dependent upon contracts from our clients. Our goal is to offer those employees who are able to work across a variety of projects steady employment.*Job Placement services are available via Employment Services referral for those seeking outside employment opportunities.
